07/27/09 Extra! Extra! Read all about it!! santa barbara supersonic makes headline news!Low and behold, we are on the front page of the Santa Barbara News-Press this morning (Monday, July 27, 2009) as the paper's headline story:
06/14/09 fuse's training progressing nicelyFuse is on schedule to compete in our Born To Run Summer Classic flyball tournament in August. We are currently working on his turn and racing with other dogs. Take a look at how his turn is shaping up!
06/05/09 introducing kellie jean!Susan and Tod Black would like to introduce Kellie Jean. A 4 year old Golden Retriever rescue "puppy" with rough house manners who needs some obedience BUT has managed to tire Skye out in the short time she's been here!.
05/09/09 first in our division both days at dog e-races!Saturday we ran away with first place and on Sunday, despite being in a more competitive division, we still managed another first place finish! All in all it was a fun weekend and as usual, Pawdemonium held a well run tournament! The video below is our first race on Sunday and despite the initial false start we went on to win the race.
05/09/09 In the fire zone, 'everybody's affected now'More than 30,500 were placed under evacuation orders. Some are staying with friends while others sleep on cots at the UC campus.Reporting from Santa Barbara -- Denise Cutbirth and her three teen daughters, two Australian shepherds and a chinchilla named Chinny were on their third day in a two-bedroom suite at Motel 6, which they have taken to calling Noah's Ark. David Caffo and his partner, Thom Zimerle, opted for the luxury of the Biltmore Hotel, which knocked its rate down to $250 a night for fire refugees, more than half off the usual cost. More> 04/01/09 fuse makes his music video debut!May we present to you... Fuse! In his screen debut in an Erika Jayne music video. Don't blink, as he has to make the most of about .87 seconds. Watch for him about 57 seconds into the video!
03/15/09 welcome new members david caffo and thom zimerle! We want to welcome our two newest members: David Caffo and Thom Zimerle! Although new to the club, certainly not new to most of the supersonics; it is good to have David and Thom racing with us once again. Their dogs Buddy, Molly, and JD are all rescues. Thom devotes a lot of his time to K9 PALS and David is a NAFA flyball judge (besides their day jobs).
winter games tourneyWe started the season as usual with the Winter Games in Orange County. Fortunately is was much warmer in the mornings than in years past. We had a great time, but it went by fast with us fielding both Open and Regular division teams.
open teamOur Open Team on Saturday (semisonic) placed second after a bit of a rough start getting unfamiliar dogs dialed in. Disa Prince and Benton from Santa Barbara Flyers along with Kathy Haney and Torry from Surf City Flyball joined us on Saturday. On Sunday (Open Bar) Disa, Kathy and Dave Roswell and Cash from Surf City joined in the fun. Our own Denise and Trevor, and Elizabeth and Tiller anchored the teams both days.
awards and new titlesPepper and Skye achieved their FDX titles while Tiller achieved his FDCH-G and Trevor achieved his FDCH! Buddy (aka Little Buddy) received his FG60K award; Buddy (aka Big Buddy) and Molly received their Onyx awards.
announcing our newest dogs... fling and koa!We would like to introduce the newest team members... Denise Roteman's Golden, Scurry, recently gave birth to a litter of pups and low and behold... Denise kept one of them. Fling!. Marty Fast recently adopted a young vizsla she has dubbed Koa.
announcing our newest supersonic... fuse!Steve and Loren Shepard would like to introduce the newest team member... an adorable little guy we like to call Fuse. He is fitting into the pack quite nicely and will be flying over jumps before you know it!
titles won at dog days of summer!OK, this is a little late getting posted, but at the the Santa Barbara Flyers tournament several dogs gained titles! It was a bit of a crazy weekend with Kashi and Zoey holding us together as Buddy headed into retirement and we were left short of handlers... thank you Jane for coming out to run Pismo! And Thanks to Rock 'n Rovers for help loading on Sunday! skye and pepper achieve flyball dogOn Saturday Pepper achieved Flyball Dog and on Sunday Skye achieved Flyball Dog in their first tournament of racing! congratulations big buddy and molly!
Congrats to David Caffo and Thom Zimerle, and (Big) Buddy and Molly! On Sunday both Molly and Buddy achieved their Onyx titles in the very same heat!!!! Quite an accomplishment! buddy and zoey reach titles in santa clarita!
Even though we seemed to have plenty of dog biscuits, we still managed to run two teams and put up enough points for titles for Buddy and Zoey! We even managed to put together a enough wins late Sunday to take third place in regular division 4! buddy reaches 60,000 points!Buddy came into this weekend needing only 214 points to reach his Flyball Grand Champion 60K title and reached it midway through racing on Saturday. Congratulations to a great flyball dog! Way to go Buddy!! Zoey reaches 10,000 points!Running on two teams Zoey put herself within striking distance of her Flyball Master Excellent title on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, the wheels came off. Tiller was rested with a foot problem and Buddy—apparently still giddy from yesterday's title win—lost focus and couldn't seem run back over the jumps. With these two key dogs sitting out, we limped through most of the day. If not for Vegas, Bailey, and Scurry we would have had to call it a day. Even with their help, it didn't look like Zoey had much of a chance to reach her title. Then, in the last three races, Buddy—rested from the afternoon off—came through!. We came to the last race needing only 3 points for Zoey's title. We gained 60 points (and enough wins to take third in the division) in the last race to give Zoey her title! a sweep in bakersfield! We went to Bakersfield and forgot the dog biscuits—again! We swept our division both days in the "Under the Big Top" tourney hosted by Turn n Spit. In fact, the prizes we were award were dog biscuit tins to try to thart our continued dominance in the future. Joining us in the Open Division were Denise and Elizabeth bringing Torch and Scurry. With their help we were able to not only sweep our division, but gain a lot of points for the team. Thanks guys! wintergames tourney in ocOur first tournament in '08 was a long one! Three rings of racing over the weekend; making for long days in pretty chilly weather. Wasn't our best tournament, but as usuall, we had fun! supersonic holiday party! We had first ever santa barbara supersonic holiday party! It was a great time with some of the highlights: Susan winning the "Mousy Housewife Award," the gift exchange, great food and wine, and a spectacular view. Click here for more pictures: supersonic holiday party.
buddy is the december 2007 cover dog on the nafa website!!A photo by photographer Dave Mills taken at the Bay Racers tournament mysteriously found its way onto the NAFA home page as their December cover dog. Hmmmm... I wonder how that happened? In any case, it is a great tribute to a great dog! Check it out: NAFA
newest Jr. handler... jacaranda shepard!Introducing the newest human member of santa barbara supersonic; Jacaranda Sloan Shepard. pups and more pups!Susan has had Skye for a little while now. But just last week, Pam and Mark were blessed with a small herd of puppies. See the pictures. demo weekend was a success! Two demos in a weekend! Whew! Thanks for everyone that sacrificed their weekend to help two great organizations. Saturday: The Ventura Sheriff's K9 FoundationThe rain on Friday didn't interrupt our planned demo and things went well at Constitution Park in Camarillo. We teamed up with Rocket Dog Racers for a great demo. We were then treated by a demonstration by the Ventura Sheriff's K9 unit. Wow!... you think our dogs are highly trained! Sunday: Meanwhile... Back at the Ranch DAWG BenefitAfter witnessing a great demonstration of sheep herding dogs and a delicious BBQ lunch, we demonstrated flyball to a very attentive and interested audience of donors. Although the demo was on the sandy ground of a horse ring, the dogs did great and we had a lot of fun answering questions and interacting with the crowd. Click here for pictures mark's recap of turn n spit's doggone hoedown tourneyFor those unable to attend the Turn ‘N’ Spit Hoedown in Lemoore, here is a brief recap: A few margaritas let us ignore that Friday night was damn chilly (Marty's thermometer read 39F in the AM). But we were there to play flyball, not whine about the weather! Plus Jacks, Labs, Weimaraners, Chihuahuas and significant others in sleeping bags are incredible at fending off the cold. In the morning, Turn N Spit had a pancake breakfast to warm our insides before the sun warmed our outsides. The temperature did warm up quickly as we set up. We were ready to go, scheduled for the very first race of the day. However, Saturday morning, we realized that amongst the entire team - none of us remembered to pack any dog biscuits. Uh oh! Watch out!
The dogs ran well, the handlers (and box guy) didn't screw up. We took every 3 out of five that we ran, giving us a win for every set. Undefeated, We took first place in our division! At the awards ceremony (5 minutes after the finish - TNS was incredibly organized), Marty had her acceptance speech in hand, but was thrown off by the lack of stuffed piggy doggy toys. She didn’t have a chance to thank her producers, agent, personal trainer and psychic before the next team came up to grab their winnings.
Turn N Spit offered a wonderful BBQ, Saturday night which was a great chance to socialize with the other teams. Bud in mason jars gave it a nice authentic touch. Saturday night was even colder than Friday night, but once again, the pancakes and the sun quickly warmed us up. On Sunday, I was left in charge of the Team Headquarters while the Supersonic team was helping out another team, the All American Racers, who were short handed.
Unfortunately a truckload of dog biscuits was delivered to HQ while I "rested my eyes." Sunday we came in fourth out of five teams, and only won three races all day. Some even went so far as to say we looked like a bunch of clowns!
In spite of the losses, we did (through incredible box-loading techniques) manage to come in under 24 seconds, not once but twice that day! A good time was had by all! TNS threw a great tournament: well organized, and a lot of fun! rain & racing at santa barbara flyers tourney!Saturday's racing was rained out and set up was delayed until Saturday afternoon. But, there was a fun day of racing on Sunday. Joe and Linda stopped by the race Petey for the first time in a couple of years. We went into the last race with a chance to place… but alas, it was not to be. Special thanks once again to Ida and Mike for making the trek all the way down from Redding to join us. first sat. & sun. at racing above the bay!
